In July 2015, a new era began for Church of the Heavenly Rest when the New York International School moved into the Parish House tower at 4 East 90th Street. The New York International School is a new independent school chartered by the British Schools Foundation, which has 10 schools around the world. Geared for both American and international students, NYIS combines a US standard curriculum with a global perspective and offers a dual-language immersion program in either Chinese or Spanish. Students are currently accepted for grades pre-nursery through fifth grade, with grades sixth through eighth to be added in the near future. NYIS is coeducational and nondenominational.
The New York International School has taken over space formerly occupied by the Trevor Day School. Founded in 1930 as the Day School of the Church of the Heavenly Rest, Trevor Day had been independent of the church since 1969 but continued to rent space from CHR for its lower school until June 2015, when the lower school moved to 1 West 88th Street.
