New addition this year for young children– ST. CECILIA CHOIR returns on Wednesdays at 3:30 for our youngest choir members beginning at age four through Grade 2 this fall!
Choristers Grade 3 through High school will continue to meet on Tuesdays at 4:15 as the main rehearsal with a make-up rehearsal available on Wednesdays at 4:15 pm for those who cannot do Tuesdays or have occasional sport conflicts.
Last season our highlights included performing at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in “A Charlie Brown Christmas”, singing at the 10:30 service, continuing to expand their knowledge through the graded Royal School of Church Music Program, and was the main choir leading the service on June 6th. We enjoyed our new place space downstairs after rehearsals which was lots of fun for all.
This year, we have a wonderful year planned which includes singing in the services, continuing with RSCM, a special recording project with Ana Hernandez, and a weekend choir trip, date to be worked out with parents to a church within a 3-5 hour drive of New York City. We will be learning the music for the Mahler VIII Symphony at Carnegie Hall, November of 2017! We welcome back our former organ scholar Prince Nyatanga, who will be helping to lead the choristers alongside our mentors this season. He is an enthusiastic addition to our church program and I know the children will look forward to seeing him again this fall.
Being in a choir provides both a singing and spiritual community for children and their families at our church. The combination of advanced musical training in a relaxed and encouraging atmosphere with the spirituality and camaraderie of a church choir is unique. Many of our choristers have remained a loyal part of the program all the way through their graduation from high school.
