Many of the parish’s youngsters participate in our popular weekly choir programs, and perform at services throughout the year. For loyal choristers, weekly choir practice and Sunday morning performances provide a rich friendship group as well as a musical education.
We follow a modified form of the Royal School of Church Music method of choral and musical training which focuses on corporate music-making; the program is geared toward musicianship and individual achievement. Over time, choristers may qualify for a series of RSCM certificates.
For the Fall 2018-2019 season, our program includes:
- St. Cecilia Choir for boys and girls, Pre-K age 4 through Grade 2, meets on Mondays at 4pm beginning September 24, 2018. This is a pre-choir music activity. They are introduced to basic musical skills through games, songs, movement, and art projects.
- Choristers, Grades 3-11 meet on Tuesdays at 4:15pm or Wednesdays at 4pm beginning September 11, 2018. These singers go through the RSCM graded curriculum, work with mentors, and are invited to participate on a weekly basis on Sunday mornings and often help with the younger choristers on weekdays.
In recent years, the choristers have performed on choir trips to England, Florida, and Washington, D.C., and as well as at Carnegie Hall and the Metropolitan Museum. This year, the choir is performing for the CHR 150th anniversary Evensong and the annual Lessons and Carols Service, presenting a Gospel Celebration Concert, and taking a weekend trip to Woodbury, CT to Rev. Tuesday Rupp’s new Church.
