As a faith community, Church of the Heavenly Rest is committed to the nurture of the whole child in the context of Christian community. It is a place where children and families flourish. Our programming is specifically designed to connect with children of all ages and abilities, with the intention of securely attaching them to their faith. Each child has the opportunity to explore and develop his or her Christian identity through art, music, drama, prayer, and liturgy.
Running from 9:30 to 10:20 on Sunday mornings, classes are taught by a team of caring volunteers, many who have children in the program. Our Sunday School classrooms are in the Undercroft (down the stairs past the Chapel). We also offer nursery care for young children.
Tiny Tots Church (ages birth through 2 years old) is a program for infants, toddlers, and their parents, meeting in the nursery.
Godly Play (for ages 3 to 5) is a method of Christian Education and spiritual direction whereby children learn the art of religious language through parable, sacred story, silence. and liturgical action. In Godly Play we tell the Bible stories to children to encourage them to connect to their personal experience of God.
Sparks Kids (grades 1 and 2) and Club 3, 4, 5 (grades 3 through 5) follow a lectionary-based curriculum with Bible readings, discussion, and hands-on activities.
Middle School Youth Group (grades 6 and 7) meets during the Sunday school hour to develop Christian Community through fun activities and service projects.
Registration is encouraged but not required. We hope you and your child will join us for Sunday School to discover more about what we are about!
