Music has long been central to the joys of worshiping at the Church of the Heavenly Rest, and we are blessed with a wonderful semi-professional choir of about 36 members, including adults and experienced high school students. This group provides an important role in the liturgy on Sundays and special services by leading our congregation in song, and by offering choral anthems, psalms, and responses.
Besides providing music for the 10:30am Eucharist service, the choir also offers special musical offerings at seasonal Evensongs, at holiday services such as Ash Wednesday and Christmas Eve (where instrumental ensembles are often added), and, on occasion, at weddings and funerals. The choir’s repertory includes an eclectic range of compositions by a wide variety of composers, from Chant to Gospel, from Thomas Tallis to Brahms to Vaughan Williams, as well as sacred music by contemporary composers such as Morten Lauridsen and choir member Bruce Saylor. The choir rehearses on Sundays before and after the 10:30 service, and we welcome parishioners with advanced choral skills to sing alongside our highly trained section leaders. If you are interested please contact music director Mollie Nichols at firstname.lastname@example.org.
