To Our Parish Community:

I am delighted to announce that the Rev. Cynthia A. Stravers has accepted my call to serve as Associate Rector beginning this fall.

As you know, we launched a search last winter for an associate who will coordinate our small groups such as 20s/30s, Third Age, and new moms, as well as support our liturgical ministries including the more than 100 congregation members who participate regularly as ushers, lay readers, chalice bearers and acolytes.  Many very strong candidates applied for this position.  Lindsey Counts, Bill Niles, Janet Robertson, Allison Saxe, Bruce Saylor, and Caroline Williamson served as a search committee that reviewed resumes and interviewed candidates.  The vestry and staff helped interview finalists.

Cindy is currently assistant to the rector of St. Paul’s Church in Norwalk, CT.  She is a 2009 graduate of The General Theological Seminary.  Before attending seminary, she was the director of children and family ministries at her church in Michigan.  She has both master’s and doctoral level work in social psychology and has taught at the college level.  Cindy has three grown daughters and five grandchildren.  She loves New York City.

I called Cindy because she has a heart for pastoral care and deep experience in program development. She helped St. Paul’s adapt new space for program needs—great preparation for our reclaiming space from the Trevor Day School in 2015.  Her background in education will enhance our commitment to nurturing children and families.  She will be a good partner with Tuesday Rupp in our expanding youth ministries.

She has also has a passion for welcoming newcomers.  We have such a warm and faithful community; I’m glad that she’ll be able to work with our Membership Committee in our efforts to welcome others to join our parish family also.

Associate priests have made a big impact on our Parish over many years. Larry Prast, Bea Blair, Jamie Hamilton, John Hartnett, Anne Richards, Pippa Turner, Tom Synan, Elizabeth Garnsey and others—Cindy will make a great addition to this group of very talented clergy.

Cindy will join us for Renewal Sunday, September 14, before formally starting in early October.  Please join me in welcoming her to Church of the Heavenly Rest.

Grace and Peace,

Matthew Heyd+

Need a Prayer

PSALM 51
Open my lips, O Lord,
and my mouth shall proclaim your praise.

Create in me a clean heart, O God,
and renew a right spirit within me.

Cast me not away from your presence
and take not your holy Spirit from me.

Give me the joy of your saving help again
and sustain me with your bountiful Spirit.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit:
as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen.
