One of our main missions at Heavenly Rest is to help you engage in your own spiritual growth. No matter where you are on your path, we strive to be a place where anyone (regardless of religious background or knowledge) feel safe and welcome to share any insight, question, doubt or experience you have with others, and to participate in useful and life-giving learning and conversation.
To that end, we offer several opportunities each week for regular engagement in spiritual nourishment.
Sunday Rector’s Forums are a weekly event from 9:30 am-10:15 am in Darlington Hall. We host many guest speakers throughout the year (well-known authors, poets, musicians and scientists), in addition to the regular line up of our own clergy, who take turns teaching and leading interactive discussion on a range of Biblical, theological and practical topics.
Questioning Faith is a weekly discussion group held Sundays at 12:15, right after the 10:30am service and coffee hour. Topics revolve around issues relevant to Christian faith and the Episcopal church; discussions are led by clergy members or guests with special expertise in the topic at hand.
Monday Meditation at 6:15 pm in the Church offers a regular practice of silent prayer (sometimes called Centering Prayer) with a brief teaching and discussion followed by 20 minutes of meditation. No prior experience is necessary, and there is no need to sign up. We ask only that you arrive on time, so as not to disrupt the silence.
Throughout the week there are many opportunities for Bible Study. On alternate Tuesday mornings, a Men’s Bible Breakfast meets in the Church at 7:30 am and a Women’s Fellowship group meets at 8 am at 3 Guys Restaurant on Madison Avenue near 88th Street. (Check the church calendar for specifics.) On Fridays there is a Bible Study at 9:45 in the Choir Room with rotating series on specific books of the Bible. Once a month there is also a Midtown Bible Study group on Thursday mornings — check the church calendar to see the next meeting date.
Every Wednesday there is a noon and 6:30pm worship service. The evening service is often followed by a class from 7 pm to 8 pm. Check the church calendar to see upcoming events.
All are welcome at any and all of the above offerings, and no prior experience or knowledge is necessary.
